2020 was a record year for dog adoptions in the U.S., with many families choosing to bring home a new pup during their COVID quarantine. And what’s the first decision a new pet owner has to make? Picking a name for their new furry best friend!

With so many options out there, we’ve dug into our data and discovered which dog names were the most popular among new DogWatch customers in the US and Canada from January to November 2020. Check out our list below!

Top 10 Dog Names of DogWatch Customers in 2020 – Female

  10. Ruby

For the fourth year in a row, Bella and Lucy claimed the top two spots on the list. They were also the two most popular female dog names for DogWatch Customers in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Sixth place finisher Ellie finally cracked the top 10 in 2020, after finishing at #11 in 2018 and 2019. Rounding out this year’s list is Ruby, which made the biggest jump from #17 in 2019 all the way to #10 in 2020.

Once again, Charlie reigns supreme as the top male dog name. The next three most popular names, Cooper, Max and Oliver, also kept their same spots on the list in 2020. This year’s biggest surprise is Finn, which jumped to #6 on the list in 2019, up from #11 in 2019. Last year’s #10 finisher Rocky is also making moves, rising two spots to #8 in 2020.
