Top 15 Dog Breeds Most Likely To Be “Escape Artists”
At DogWatch, it’s our mission to keep dogs safe at home in their yards. So we were definitely intrigued to see Business Insider‘s recent list of the dog breeds most likely to run away from home. The list featured a few usual suspects (hello, hounds!) and some surprises, too. Check out the top 15 below, complete with photos of actual DogWatch customers who overcame their wandering ways and are now safe at home thanks to their DogWatch Hidden Fences!
1. Anatolian Shepherd
Tonka, a Anatolian Shepherd from Stirling, Ontario, poses with Keith Bailey of DogWatch of Southeastern Ontario after a training session. Tonka’s wandering days are over, and his parents can now rest easy that their bighearted pup will stay safe in their yard while still enjoying the freedom to roam and explore.
In January 2016, a two-and-a-half year-old Bloodhound named Ludivine wandered away from home in Elkmont, AL, joined a half marathon in progress, and finished the race in 7th place. She’s now a DogWatch dog! Click here to read more about this remarkable racing pup! (Photo Credit: Elkmont’s Hound Dog Half Facebook page)
3. Great Pyrenees
We love this video Great Pyrenees Hubert and Symone, along with buddy Boswell the Tornjak, safely enjoying their freedom at their Cooperstown, NY home thanks to their DogWatch Hidden Fence from DogWatch of Upstate NY.
NOTE: For large, thick-coated dogs like Great Pyrenees, we recommend using collars fitted with our longer contact posts. DogWatch also strongly recommends that DogWatch receiver collars be removed daily (such as at night when inside) to prevent skin irritation.
4. Catahoula Leopard Dog
These two stunning dogs, Sampson and Apollo, are Catahoula Leopard Dog/Labrador Retriever mixes and customers of DogWatch of Columbus.
5. Bluetick Coonhound
Here is Smokey, a Bluetick Coonhound and a DogWatch of Montana customer since October 2016. Smokey comes from a famous line of Blueticks; his uncle (also named Smokey) is the mascot at the University of Tennessee.
6. Pit Bull Mix
Meet Mia, a loving 8 year old pit bull mix, shown here with her proud mom Jaclyn after Mia successfully completed her training with DogWatch of Upstate NY. Mia wears our R9 vibrating receiver collar, specially designed for noise sensitive or hearing-impaired dogs. Jaclyn tells us: “Mia can now enjoy her big yard without the restraints of a leash! Thank you Dogwatch of Upstate NY!!! 🙂 We are so happy!”
7. Black and Tan Coonhound
Another Coonhound variety on the list! Rufus the Coonhound mix from Atlanta, GA has been a DogWatch of Metro Atlanta customer since 2012, and definitely knows how to strike a regal pose for the camera in his rare moments of rest.
8. Belgian Malinois
Milo the Beglian Malinois/Border Collie, a DogWatch of Greater Pittsburgh customer since September 2016, takes a break in the shade after his first day of Hidden Fence training.
9. Saint Bernard
Is there anything cuter than a Saint Bernard puppy? DogWatch’s Dealer in Ireland snapped this photo of an 11 week old puppy a month before she started her hidden fence training back in 2015. We bet she’s MUCH bigger now, but still as cute as ever.
10. Great Dane
Sapphire Blue and Onyx Moon are a pair of one-and-a-half year-old Great Dane sisters from Pittsburgh, PA who are also DogWatch customers. Along with their adorable baby Great Dane brother Jasper, the tall trio are a big hit on Instagram, where they have attracted over 1800 followers with their adorable photos and videos. Click here to read more about their adventures!
11. American Bulldog
12. Standard Poodle
Henry, a 5 year old Standard Poodle and DogWatch of Northeast Wisconsin customer, doesn’t let a little bit of snow stop him from having a howling good time outdoors!
13. Treeing Walker Coonhound
14. Bernese Mountain Dog
We love to see the giant smiles on the faces of our DogWatch dogs, like Shiloh the Bernese Mountain Dog. Enjoy your freedom, happy girl, and thanks for the great photo, DogWatch by K9 Keeper (serving the Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Lansing, MI area)!
15. Australian Shepherd
We know a lot about Aussies thanks to our adorable office dog Nellie. She’s smart, silly, affectionate and of course, a pro when it comes to her hidden fence training! We ❤️ you Nellie!
