The 50 Cutest Mixed Breed Dog Names

July 31 is National Mutt Day, and we’re celebrating with this tribute to our favorite mixed breed dogs names. This also gives us a chance to highlight some of the fabulously unique “hybrid” dogs and mystery mixes that are part of the DogWatch Hidden Fences family. The Top 10 Most Popular Dog Breeds in Canada in 2018

The Canadian Kennel Club recently released their annual survey of the most popular dog breeds in Canada in 2018.  No surprise, the Labrador Retriever held on to its number one ranking as the most popular dog breed in the country. The beloved Lab, also very popular in the United States, has held the top spot on CKC’s list for over two decades.

The big news this year is the debut of the Portuguese Water Dog, which cracked the top 10 for the first time. This smart, fun-loving working dog continues to grow in popularity in Canada. Fans include Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who brought home Kenzie, a Portuguese Water Dog puppy, in 2016.

The Top 10 Most Popular Dog Breeds in America in 2018

Today, the American Kennel Club announced the results of their annual survey of the most popular dog breeds in America, and once again, the Labrador Retriever took the top spot. For 28 years in a row, the Lab has been #1 on the list, which is determined by the AKC based on the number of registrations received. In fact, the top eight breeds are all the same as last year.

The only change from the 2017 list is in the last two spots. Last year’s #9 breed, the Yorkshire Terrier, dropped to #10. Meanwhile, the German Shorthaired Pointer rose from #10 in 2017 to #9 in 2018. That’s the highest rank the GSP has ever achieved since its AKC debut in 1930!  Read post »

Highlights from the 2019 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

Best in Show at the 2019 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Goes to…

Congratulations to King, a Wire Fox Terrier, who beat out thousands of dogs to win the top prize – Best in Show – at the 143st Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show last evening at Madison Square Garden in New York City. King’s victory furthers the reign of the Wire Fox Terrier, the breed with the most wins in the history of the dog show.

King, a seven year-old male who’s full name is GCHB CH Kingarthur Van Foliny Home, hails from Brazil and was the top terrier worldwide in 2018. His handler, Gabriel Rangel, is also no stranger to the winner’s circle – he was the handler for previous Best in Show winners Sadie the Scottie in 2010 and Sky the Wire Fox Terrier in 2014.
