Is there any ingredient that reminds you of fall more than pumpkin? Luckily, the thing that makes your autumn lattes so delicious is also a great treat for your pup! Packed with fiber, pumpkin is healthy for dogs and can help with digestion. Here are three recipes perfect for the next lovely fall weekend, or for your dog-friendly Halloween party!
Butternut and Acorn Squash
Butternut and acorn Squash are in season in the fall, and like pumpkin, can make great, healthy additions to your dog’s diet. The tasty flavor of these squash varieties is popular with dogs on its own, but why not try one of these yummy dog treat recipes? These recipes feature some of your dog’s other perennial favorite foods, like peanut butter and carrots.
Sweet potatoes are another great fall crop that dogs love to eat! They are also a great source of fiber and vitamins. You can keep it simple by slicing and dehydrating them to make yummy chewy treats, as shown in the first recipe. Or you can add another fall staple, maple syrup, to the mix to make a perfect fall dog cookie courtesy of the second recipe – which is also our second entry from the delightful D-I-Y dog blog Kol’s Notes!
Going apple picking with the family this fall? Apples (minus the seeds) are also a great, crisp fall treat for dogs. Plus they are a good source of fiber and Vitamins A and C. Set aside some of your orchard haul and try one of these tasty options to treat your special pup!
One last note: Always pay careful attention to the dog’s behavior and health when introducing a new treat, and give treats to your dogs only in moderation. If you have any questions at all regarding appropriate food choices, contact your veterinarian.
Have a happy fall and happy baking to you all!
