Canine Military Heroes: 5 Important Service Dogs Who Should Be Celebrated

The first version of Memorial Day was called Decoration Day and was celebrated on May 30th, 1868. On that day, citizens of the United States would decorate the graves and memorials of fallen Civil War soldiers at Arlington Cemetery in Virginia. By 1890, many states had adopted the holiday as a day of memorial, and in 1971 it became a national holiday.

Every Memorial Day, we recognize the day as a chance to honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in each branch of our military forces. The DogWatch team joins in this salute and extends a heartfelt thanks to all veterans for their courageous service.
